… for as yet they did not understand the Scripture, that he must rise from the dead. ~ John 20:9
Understanding the Bible begins with reading it. Most people never reach that point, let alone study it. Only a few parts of the Bible are taken in by them. While some people read devotional books that contain references to the Bible, there is no substitute for reading the Bible for yourself. Learning about the Bible is OK, but studying it for yourself is essential to know Jesus Christ and who He is. Studying the Bible requires the Holy Spirit to teach you what it means, so pray and ask Him to help you understand it when you study it. Don’t rely on a preacher or person to tell you what it means as they may not even know Jesus themselves and be deceiving you. ~ David Campbell
did not know the Scripture. Neither Peter nor John understood that Scripture said Jesus would rise (Psa_16:10). This is evident by the reports of Luke (Luke 24:25-27, Luke 24:32, Luke 24:44-47). Jesus had foretold His resurrection (John 2:17; Matthew 16:21; Mark 8:31; Mark 9:31; Luke 9:22), but they would not accept it (Matthew 16:22; Luke 9:44-45). By the time John wrote this Gospel, the church had developed an understanding of the Old Testament prediction of Messiah’s resurrection (cf. “as yet”).
