October 21

Beware of those who are changing the word of God (the Bible) they are everywhere nowadays.

O Timothy, guard the deposit entrusted to you. Avoid the irreverent babble and contradictions of what is falsely called “knowledge,” ~ 1 Timothy 6:20

what is falsely called knowledge. False doctrine—anything claiming to be the truth that is in fact a lie. False teachers typically claim to have superior knowledge. They claim to know the transcendent secrets but actually are ignorant and infantile in their understanding. Colossians 2:8  MacArthur Bible Commentary

New Testament:
1 Timothy 6:1-21

Summary: False Teachers and True Contentment, Fight the Good Fight of Faith

And oh, my dear Timothy, guard the treasure you were given! Guard it with your life. Avoid the talk-show religion and the practiced confusion of the so-called experts. ~ 1 Timothy 6:20 MSG

The church’s main responsibility is to guard and proclaim the truths of Scripture, so Paul here instructs Timothy on how to guard and protect the Word of God.

Key Word

Idle Babblings: 1Ti_6:20—lit. “empty words.” Paul uses this term to express a total void of spiritual meaning. In other words, human achievement amounts to nothing if it does not come from the will of God. In Paul’s time, Judaizers were trying to entice believers by using clever-sounding philosophies. Paul described their hollow talk as idle babblings (see 1Ti_6:20; Eph_5:6; Col_2:8; 2Ti_2:16). On the other hand, the teaching of Paul and the apostles was not futile; it would last throughout eternity because it originated in God’s unchanging will (Mat 5:18; 1Co 15:12-15). False Knowledge

False Knowledge

A good example of false teaching is the book “Conversations with God” by Neale D. Walsch.

Walsch is repeating one of Satan’s original lies, “You will be as God” (Genesis 3:5).

According to the author of Conversations with God, there is no right way to live or one way to come to God. There are many ways, and all of them are equally valid. All the gods of various religions are really the same “God.” Of course, the One True God disagrees with Walsch: “Thus says the LORD, the King of Israel, And his Redeemer, the LORD of hosts: ‘I am the First and I am the Last; Besides Me there is no God’” (Isaiah 44:6).

Actually, Walsch got these words from Satan.

 1 Timothy 6:20–21

In Psalm 138, verse 2, the Bible says, “God has exalted his Word above his name.” Scripture is the self-revelation of God. This is all we know about God. If you pervert this, you pervert God. And if you say you believe it and you don’t live it, then you say, “God isn’t serious. Don’t take him seriously. Don’t take his word seriously. It really doesn’t matter that much. We’re the spokesmen for God and this is how we live, so if we don’t take seriously who know him most intimately, why in the world should anybody else take his word seriously?” That’s the real scandal, and nobody has said a word about that, and I’m appalled at that. This is the record of who God is. This is the record of what he has done. This is the record of what he will do. This is the record of what he is doing. This is the record of what he requires, and we have to get this right and give it its place. It is a Holy Word. It is a pure Word. It is a true Word. And the Psalmist said in Psalm 119:161, “My heart stands in awe of thy word.” And Isaiah said in chapter 66, “God wants a man who trembles at his word.” But when you stand up and say you are the spokesman for his Word and you live in continual violation of it, you mock the Word and you mock the authority of God and you mock the power of God by your life. That is the scandal, the scandal of perverting the sacred duty of a ministry which is to guard with sacredness and holiness the pure word of the living God. That is the worst violation of trust.
