Old Testament: Jeremiah 22:1-23:20

But in the prophets of Jerusalem I have seen a horrible thing: they commit adultery and walk in lies; they strengthen the hands of evildoers, so that no one turns from his evil; all of them have become like Sodom to me, and its inhabitants like Gomorrah.” Therefore thus says the LORD of hosts concerning the prophets: “Behold, I will feed them with bitter food and give them poisoned water to drink, for from the prophets of Jerusalem ungodliness has gone out into all the land.” Thus says the LORD of hosts: “Do not listen to the words of the prophets who prophesy to you, filling you with vain hopes. They speak visions of their own minds, not from the mouth of the LORD. They say continually to those who despise the word of the LORD, ‘It shall be well with you’; and to everyone who stubbornly follows his own heart, they say, ‘No disaster shall come upon you.’”

God does not change. Pastors, Preachers, and Teachers of the word of God should know that God will not put up with your deceiving His children.

 


New Testament: 2 Thessalonians 1:1-12

Summary: Thanksgiving, The Judgment at Christ’s Coming

This is evidence of the righteous judgment of God, that you may be considered worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you are also suffering— since indeed God considers it just to repay with affliction those who afflict you, and to grant relief to you who are afflicted as well as to us, when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with his mighty angels in flaming fire, inflicting vengeance on those who do not know God and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. They will suffer the punishment of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might, when he comes on that day to be glorified in his saints, and to be marveled at among all who have believed, because our testimony to you was believed.

do not know God. 1Th_4:5. This speaks to the lack of a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ (cf. Joh_17:3; Gal_4:8; Eph_2:12; Eph_4:17-18; Tit_1:16). Retribution is not dealt out because of persecuting Christians, but because they did not obey God’s command to believe (cf. Act_17:30-31; Rom_1:5; Rom_10:16; Rom_15:18; Rom_16:19) and call upon the name of the Lord to be saved from their sin (Rom_10:9-13; 1Co_16:22; Heb_10:26-31). Salvation is never obtained by works but always by placing one’s faith alone in the Lord Jesus Christ (Eph_2:8-10).
