Christians also must be ready,
both for the devil’s attack (1 Peter 5:8-9), but also to defeat and to overcome the devil (Revelation 12:11). They do not do that by their own strength, but by the power of the Holy Spirit who is working in them (Romans 8:11). Their weapons are not the weapons that soldiers use. Rather, they overcome the devil by their trust in God and as they stand for truth. They overcome the devil by their prayers, by their right attitudes and with the gospel, the good news about Christ. They overcome the devil as they trust God’s word, the Bible (5:13-18).  From: usefulbible.com  – by Keith Simons

New Testament:
Ephesians 6:1-24

Summary: Children and Parents, Bondservants and Masters, The Whole Armor of God

The great war in the spirit world

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
~ Ephesians 6:12

Daniel 10:12-14 records how the prince of Persia opposed an angel, a special servant of God. This prince was clearly not a human prince, because he was able to delay that angel for 21 days. No person could do that, so clearly the description is of an event in the spirit world.

Such an account may seem very strange to us. However, we are all aware of events in our world over which people have no control whatever. For example, often events happen in international politics that no person ever wanted to happen. Similarly, the opinions, beliefs and attitudes of large numbers of people can change greatly, without any clear explanation. So, powerful forces affect our world that we simply cannot identify in this world.

The Bible’s explanation is that a great war is happening in the spirit world (Revelation chapter 12). The devil does not act alone, but he has the support of a great army of evil spirits. Their complete defeat is certain, but it will not happen until the proper time (2 Peter 3:3-9). That time is immediately before Christ returns to rule our world (Revelation 19:11 to 20:4).

In the meantime, the battles continue between good and evil forces in the spirit world. On God’s side are his vast and powerful armies of angels, who act to support his people (Psalm 91:11; Hebrews 1:14). Also on God’s side is every person who becomes a Christian. They support God by their decision to stand for God, by their prayers and by their right attitudes. In the next few verses (6:13-18), Paul will show some other ways by which they fight in this great war.

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. Pray also for me, that whenever I speak, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should.
~ Ephesians 6:10-20

 Ephesians 6:10–13

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. The assumption here is it will not be easy. It’s going to take strength. It’s going to take strength that you don’t have. That’s why it says be strong in the Lord and repeats it in the strength of His might. This is not an easy walk, it is a walk in the sense that it is repetitive, that it is constant, that it is not highs and lows, fast and slow, it is a pace. You’re to live a godly, holy pace. But it is not easy.
